So, the moment you’ve dreamed of your whole life has finally arrived. You met the person with whom you want to spend the rest of your life and are planning to get married! Of late, you’ve been scouring catalogs, making guest lists and discussing all sorts of plans together, including whether to sign a prenuptial agreement. Many Missouri couples have done so in the past, citing various benefits to the process.

Since many people are concerned with debt these days, and a prenuptial agreement can be used as a means to isolate debt liability to one spouse or the other. If one person entering marriage is bringing along a massive student loan obligation or other outstanding debt, a prenup can include stipulations that the debt-free spouse is not responsible for the other spouse’s financial obligation. If you’ve already established a successful business before marriage, you can make sure its interests are protected so that if divorce occurs some day, business assets will not be subject to division.

If this marriage is not your first go around, and you have children, you can secure their inheritance with a well-designed marital contract. There are several other potential benefits of entering a prenuptial agreement as well. Each couple can discuss the issue and determine whether it’s a good choice for their situation.

There are also a few downfalls possible in a prenuptial agreement. At Stange Law Firm, PC, we know the pros and cons and can provide guidance according to your particular needs. Helping you obtain peace of mind as you begin your married life is high on our priority list. By calling our Missouri office, you can request a meeting and consider adding a prenup to your current wedding plans.
