Celebrity divorce highlights interest in divorce

Divorce in the U.S. is an interesting phenomenon, even if you are not involved in the dissolution of a marriage. It used to be relatively rare, and now the divorce rate approaches one out of every two marriages.

Just as weddings have evolved from simple ceremonies with a reception in the church basement, now some couples now seem determined to go into debt with their wedding expense before they consider more significant expenditures, such as a home.

As weddings have become an industry, so, understandably, has divorce. It is not just the total numbers of divorces, but also the presence on the internet and cable television. Some “reality TV” programs seem to exist merely to provide a platform for millions of viewers to watch the up-close disintegration of a marriage.

One professor note the popularity of such programs and why divorce fascinates us is that we are “feel a sense of moral superiority by judging them and their life choices.”

But for anyone who is faced with a real life divorce of their own here in Saint Charles, there is the little satisfaction to be gained by watching celebrity divorces. You have to deal with your own issues of spousal and child support, child custody and property division.

While you may occasionally learn something useful that can be applied to your situation, your own divorce attorney is a better resource, and can answer your specific questions and he or she can put them in context, so you understand how the various aspects of the process will affect your divorce.
