Walmart heiress files for divorce

7382111_S.jpgDivorce can be a difficult time for all parties, including high-profile individuals in the public eye. In many cases, various challenges have already developed that may cause a strain in the relationship between husband and wife.

When there are no children involved, the primary issue in a divorce tends to focus on money. In fact, financial circumstances are often a leading cause of marriages to dissolve in the first place. Either way, it is important to deal with all of the potential issues that arise, including those that will significantly affect an individual's financial stability after a divorce.

Deciding how to divide marital assets is one of the more challenging tasks for the individuals divorcing. If the circumstances are already bitter, this can become an even greater source of contention.

In one recent news story, it was reported that the wealthy granddaughter of Walmart co-founder Bud Walton recently filed for divorce from her husband of almost six years. St. Louis residents may recall that Paige Laurie was supposed to be the new namesake for the University of Missouri arena in 2004 until her former roommate at another college revealed details that led to a question of integrity.

Paige cited irreconcilable differences in her divorce petition, but an additional civil lawsuit discloses that her husband allegedly stole thousands of dollars from their joint retail center. She will supposedly still honor their prenuptial agreement in which it is stated that she will pay spousal support in the event that they divorce.

Whether or not a divorce includes high assets, legal advice is always recommended to individuals. Dealing with a divorce and any of the hardships that go along with it is a stressful time. Having the support of an attorney who understands what is at stake and what can be expected could prove to be very reassuring.
