Property division and military pensions in Missouri

11597904_S.jpgThe many members of the military and their families living in Missouri routinely make sacrifices and endure the harsh realities of a lifestyle that few people outside of the armed forces can understand or appreciate. When service members go through a divorce, they experience the same emotional stresses as civilian couples, but they must also confront family legal issues unique to the military.

False paternity tests cost more than money

14787085_S.jpgOne Missouri man, as well as a mother and her son, have filed a lawsuit after discovering that he is not the father of the boy -- 20 years after the son was born. A short time after the child was born, the mother ordered a paternity test from a local laboratory. That lab concluded with 99.6 percent certainty that the man was indeed the father. For the last two decades, the man felt unsettled, knowing the truth deep within and waiting to finally receive the right answers.

How paternity is established in Missouri

37913328_S.jpgWhen a married couple has a child, the husband is presumed to be the biological father of the child. When a couple is not married and has a child, the process for establishing paternity is a bit more complicated. Under Missouri law, paternity can be established either voluntarily or involuntarily.

A look at child custody laws in Missouri

34435206_S.jpgDetermining child custody is generally considered the toughest part of the divorce process. Each parent may want greater custody than the other, or one parent may worry that the other, who is unfit to raise a child, may be granted too much visitation. Missouri has laws that dictate child custody arrangements that are helpful in this negotiation process.
